About the formulas

Are these supplements regulated?

Herbal tinctures and teas are sold as supplements in the United States. The FDA does not regulate them the way it regulates pharmaceuticals. We follow good manufacturing practice but nothing on this site has been evaluated by the FDA, and none of it is a substitute for medical advice.

How long do tinctures keep?

Indefinitely, in practice. Brandy is a preservative. Most of our formulas are still potent at five years if stored out of direct sunlight. If a bottle smells or tastes off, throw it out.

Can I take more than one tincture at once?

Yes, in most cases. If you're combining three or more, it's worth a quick consultation to make sure nothing's working against itself.

Do you offer a detox or cleanse program?

Not as a packaged product. The body has a liver, kidneys and lymphatic system that do this work continuously, and what most people call a 'detox' is really a few weeks of eating better and resting more. If you feel sluggish or congested, book a consultation — we'll talk about what's actually going on before recommending anything.

Safety and interactions

Should I talk to my doctor before starting?

Yes — especially if you take prescription medication, have a long-term condition, or are about to have surgery. Tell your doctor what you're starting and why. We're happy to write a short note explaining the formula and its ingredients if that helps the conversation.

What if I'm on prescription medication?

Some herbs interact with prescription drugs — St. John's wort and SSRIs, for instance, or grapefruit-related extracts and statins. We screen for these during a consultation. Don't combine herbs with prescription medication without checking first.

Are these formulas safe during pregnancy or while nursing?

Most are not. Several common herbs — bitters, certain digestives, anything described as a 'stimulant' — are contraindicated during pregnancy. Don't take an herbal formula while pregnant or nursing without consulting a qualified practitioner. If you're pregnant and want to talk through what's safe, book a consultation.

Are there age restrictions?

We don't recommend our tinctures for children under twelve, and for anyone under eighteen we'd rather you came through a consultation first. Adults over seventy-five should also start with a consultation — dosing usually needs to be adjusted.

I'm having surgery — anything I should know?

Stop most tinctures two weeks before surgery. Some herbs affect bleeding time or interact with anesthesia. Resume after your surgeon clears you. If you're not sure which formulas to pause, email us and we'll tell you.

Shipping and returns

How fast do orders ship?

Most formulas are made to order. Standard turnaround is three business days from order to ship. Shipping within the United States is by USPS Priority Mail.

Do you ship internationally?

Canada, yes. Beyond that, please write to us before ordering — some plants are restricted at customs.

What's your return policy?

If a bottle arrives damaged, we replace it free. We don't accept returns of opened bottles for safety reasons. If a formula doesn't work for you, write and tell us — we usually have a better fit.

Consultations

What happens in a consultation?

Forty-five minutes by video or phone with Dr. Adam Smith. We send an intake form ahead of time. You talk; we listen. At the end you get a written summary with formulas, dosing, and follow-up notes.

How much does it cost?

Twenty dollars for the call, refunded against your first formula.

Is Adam a doctor?

Yes — a naturopathic doctor. Not a medical doctor. Naturopathic doctors are trained in herbal medicine, nutrition and dietary therapy. We don't diagnose conditions and we don't replace your physician. We work alongside conventional medicine when that's the right call.
